Just noticed the sets of 14 snatches L/R from the other session. Cool. Hope there were no more flying incidents though ;)

Yeah, I hope to hit bodyweight for a triple two sessions from now. I consider 165 bwt although lately I am consistently a bit below that. Are you familiar with Coach Mark Rippetoe at all? His book Starting Strength is one of the best books ever written in terms of learning the basic barbell moves. He defines a 153 pound press as advanced for an adult man in my weight class, while to get an elite ranking I will have to press 186. My DL is just a few pounds off advanced (411) and my power clean is WAY off. He defines advanced as 246. I will get there though. As far as the snatches, they seemed to click on that set a little better than they've been doing. I think I've figured out that I need to get my hamstrings more flexible to work through my issues on the drop.

Yeah, I've had my eye on that book for a while. I may just have to buy it now.

It doesn't surprise me that you are up there in that class - you're a strong dude for sure.

As for issues on the drop with snatches...don't talk to me!! I think Franklin hit the nail on the head about tendons and ligaments. How is your flexibilty in general? Relax into stretch is a great book on the subject.

Its a bit weird sometimes having two different conversations on two sites :)

Outstanding barbell work! Tremendous pressing strength. As for Mark Rippetoe, I recently used his public domain videos on Xfit to improve my DL (still quite lame at only 195 lb).

I'm looking to pick up some used olympic weights so I can practice DLs at home. I understand that this lift is the basis of PTTP and that many have made enormous strength gains using it and many have successfully combined KB training with it as well.

And yes, you WILL get there!

I have gotten all of my olympic weights used. If you are patient craigslist.com will be your friend. I have paid a total of $200 for two 300 pound weight sets, a bench (still never used)and squat stands. Definitely buy Starting Strength (both of you) as it is the best step by step instruction for learning the squat and deadlift. The press and powerclean chapters are also very good, and I don't do any bench press to speak of, but the instruction is top notch if you have any interest in it.
Franklin, how long have you been practicing the deadlift? I admire humility, but you are making very good gains with some history of injuries, so don't sell yourself short.
